Why is Chattanooga a good place to do business?

Yesterday's announcement that Chattanooga now boasts the fastest broadband internet in the US, comes among mounting evidence that has some people speculating that the Scenic City is poised for an economic renaissance reminiscent of the Silicon Valley in the nineties. As all the media attention in the past few years suggests, 1GB fiber optic internet is just one of many reasons outsiders are often left thinking: Chattanooga... who knew?

Why would you want to move your business to Chattanooga, Tennessee?  Well, there are many reasons.

Here are the facts:

  1. Bandwidth - 1000 Mbps symmetrical over a 100% fiber optic network for $350/month.  30 Mbps up and down for under $60/month.
  2. Affordable reliable energy - provided by Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), one of the largest and well diversified energy producers in the United States
  3. Surplus of affordable commercial property
  4. Affordable homes. On average $300,000 will get you 3,000 sq ft in a nice neighborhood, and 1 million will get you a palace with a view and your own private dock.
  5. Unbelievable quality of life. Countless attractions and things to do with the kids, close proximity to outdoor recreational activities, many wonderful eventspublic art, biking trails as well as nationally recognized schools including Baylor, Girls Preparatory School (GPS), McCallieBrightNormal Park Museum Magnet
  6. A city known for smart growth and green living - Known for it's world class riverfront and abundant green spaces, local sustainable agriculture, multiple farmers markets, a downtown electric shuttle system, and the recent addition of a LEED certified movie theater.
  7. Building a future on clean technology and green energy. Already home to the first Bloom Box Energy Server in the Eastern USVolkswagen's first US facility that is expected to produce 30% TDI clean diesel automobiles, Alstom's nuclear steam turbine production facility, and Wacker Chemie AG's new facility which will manufacture polysilicon, an essential and scarce raw material in the production of solar panels. Also, rumor has it that Chattanooga is slated to participate one of the largest electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure testing programs in the US.
